Description
the rectangular top with dual-hinge mounted D-end drop leaves, the facade fitted with two mahogany lined drawers, one of which stamped “Gillingtons 5075”, featuring brass handles and oviform escutcheon plates, as well as corresponding dummy drawers to the rear, mounted in the Georgian style atop a turned pedestal with beaded accenting, raised on four reeded sabre legs with acanthus carved knees and cast brass sabots, terminating in wooden casters, 73 x 92 x 78cm to 73 x 151 x 78cm, Gillingtons comprised of founder John Gillington and his two sons Samuel and George, the firm operating as upholders and cabinet makers from a variety of Dublin addresses between 1787 and at least 1838,including 7 Montague Street, (1793 - 1805), 57 Stephen’s Street (1800 - 1809), 119 Abbey Street (1814 - 1820), and 118 Abbey Street (1820 - 1823), trading as John Gillington and Sons from 1810 - 14, with both sons taking over the business in partnership in 1815, Note: A sofa table of similar description sold anonymously in Sotheby’s London, 12th January 1979, lot 218, stamped Gillingtons 3009

Fair - excellent patina; no key; signs of repair to top veneer, as shown; fine, shallow scratches to top consistent with use; light verdigris to brass escutcheons; minor loss to veneer along front edge of top, above stamped drawer, as shown; one drop leaf with evident sun bleaching to finish; mismatched brass handles to rear dummy drawers; some chips to wooden casters; well maintained with some screws and other hardware replaced
